Timber Frame construction dates back 2000 - 3000 years ago
and has developed over the centuries. Timber Frame construction is a building
system in which heavy timbers are mortised and tenoned or other-wise joined,
then pegged together. The posts and beams, once joined, make up the self
supporting structure of the building. Wood sheathing for walls and roof
are then applied to the structure.
Timber Frame buildings are strong and durable. They can last for centuries.
Timber Frame buildings have a timeless beauty, displaying
the wooden structure as the building component and the interior finish.
Here are some pictures of Timber Frame buildings taken
at Upper Canada Village.
